Amidst the disputed island of Scarborough Shoal between the Philippines and China, not to mention the latter's infamous fake products gone viral over the internet, there is one Chinese Philosopher who I admire the most. Yes, he is Chinese and I respect everyone despite the circumstances.
His particular set of ideas about the way of life is something we often take for granted. After reading some of his teachings, I gathered some lessons that I think most of us can learn from, regardless of religion and race.
Who is Lao Tzu?
Now, just to give you a brief background of this renowned Chinese Philosopher, Lao Tzu (also sometimes known as Lao Tze or Laozi), little is known about him actually. He is the guiding figure of Daoism or also known as Taoism. Which in turn is also known as the path of life or the way of life.
This popular spiritual practice started as psychology and philosophy combined that evolved into a religion in 440 CE which was adopted as a state religion. Together with other two religions, Buddhism, and Confucianism.
Some say that he had worked as a record keeper in the court of Chinese Zhou Dynasty during the 6th century B.C. He is often considered as the older contemporary of another great Chinese Philosopher, Confucius. But some says Lao Tzu could have been mythical persona like Homer in the Western culture. Either way, I believe there is great wisdom in his teachings that are worth sharing.
Some of Lao Tzu's Teachings
So as what I have said, here are some of this great philosopher's teachings that we can learn a thing or two.
Hope you liked it and learned something as well!
